Nobody's part of us. "Part of us" is a matter of identity, not relationship. Our "parts" are ours. But there is such a thing as shared responsibility. If we're vulnerable, even feeling broken, others should help regardless of any "standard" expectation of perfect independence. Capitalism trains us to conflate interdependence with abject dependence. We owe each other something, especially when we do not feel intact.
